Hub101 Founder and Community Manager, Greg Monterrosa Joins the Thousand Oaks Business Roundtable!

Hub101 is excited to announce Community Manager Greg Monterrosa’s recent appointment to the Thousand Oaks City Council Business Roundtable. The Business Roundtable is a group of leaders within the local business community who meet on a regular basis to provide input on City Council decisions affecting the local community and its citizens. The group discusses a variety of topics within every meeting’s agenda, and works in tandem with the City Council to make progress towards the goal of making the city of Thousand Oaks a place where all business can thrive.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what kinds of things this group and the City Council can accomplish through working together.”

According to Monterrosa, having a Hub101 community member participating in this type of civic group is a great thing for startups and entrepreneurship in our region. “It’s in the spirit of Hub101 to take part in this type of venture,” Monterrosa said.

Startup Weekend Ventura County - Internet of Things, Healthcare and Agriculture will bring together local entrepreneurs, developers, designers and startup enthusiasts intent on learning what is like to share ideas, form teams, and practice launching a startup over 54 hours.

Attendees will pitch their ideas to the audience in 60 seconds or less. After teams form, the rest of the weekend will be spent implementing the most popular ideas  with the help of mentors and seasoned startup entrepreneurs. By Sunday, teams will be ready to present their prototypes before a panel of judges who include:

The winner of IoT Healthcare and the winner of IoT Agriculture will each be awarded a no-interest, no-repayment and no-equity cash prize of $10,000 for use as seed capital. After helping to organize the first Startup Weekend Conejo Valley, Greg Monterrosa embarked on an entrepreneurial journey of discovery in France and the United Kingdom.
 In four months, he mentored at Startup Weekend Paris Makers Edition, Startup Weekend Bourdoux, and Startup Weekend Lyon. He visited 24 co-work spaces, 15 startup accelerators, and 10 venture capitalists, mentoring more than 100 start-up's along the way. Greg shared with us the highlights of his trip, what he learned about entrepreneurship in Europe, and what European entrepreneurs think about California startup communities.
